Welcome to the DT38 April 2023 newsletter, Channel38.
It’s been another busy month for DT38 and we’re here to share some of the very latest news, events and stories involving our charity.
It’s also an opportunity for us to pass on vital information about the work we do raising awareness of testicular cancer across the world, around schools and in communities as well as publicly showing gratitude for the many people who support us in our work.

Rest In Peace Dylan Tombides – Nine Years Gone, Never Forgotten
We were so moved to read the hundreds of tributes that poured in to remember Dylan Tombides on the ninth anniversary of his passing.
Dylan passed away on April 18th, 2014, after an incredibly brave battle with testicular cancer.
His legacy continues to inspire a great number of people, young and old.
It was in his name and memory that DT38 was set up one year after his death to raise awareness of the disease.
Dylan’s influence has helped educate thousands of men and boys about the risks of testicular cancer and the importance of self checking.
The Tombides family would like us to say a huge thanks to everyone who shared messages of support with us.

Twitter Blue Tick
This month the blue verification mark was removed from our Twitter account as part of a shake up by the social media company.
“Legacy” blue ticks, as they are known, have been removed from most twitter accounts going forward meaning the only way to display a blue tick is to pay a subscription fee for it.
This is the same for many celebrities, sports stars, charities and even some news organisations.
DT38 has decided to use the money we would have to spend on a blue tick subscription towards our work raising awareness of testicular cancer.
Please be reassured that our authentic Twitter account remains @dylantombides and we’ll continue to be very active on there.
Annual Match at Perth Glory FC for DT38
Just a little reminder that we’re so proud to be centre of attention at the A League fixture Perth Glory FC v Western United FC on Saturday, April 29th.
It will be the annual awareness game with our partner club Glory and there will be plenty in place to pay tribute to Dylan and to raise awareness for DT38.
There will be a minute’s applause to remember Dylan on minute 38.01 and a special coin toss among of host of activities.

DT38 Ambassadors Flying High
It’s proving to be a sensational season on the pitch for many of our DT38 Ambassadors.
As the English football season draws to a close, we’re so proud to share some our fabulous folks’ achievements.
First up there’s Elliot Lee who has won promotion into the EFL with AFC Wrexham and been firmly in the spotlight with the support of the club’s Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
And then another of Dylan’s closest friends, George Moncur, has won the League Two title with Leyton Orient FC.
Former Dylan Tombides Award winner Josh Cullen will be playing in the EPL next season after claiming honours in the Championship with Burnley FC and Dan Potts’ Luton FC are in the hunt for promotion after securing a play off spot.
Back in the National League Rob Hall is chasing promotion into the EFL with Barnet FC, good luck to them.
Sam Kerr’s Chelsea FC are in the hunt for the Women’s Super League title too, which two crucial games in hand over both Manchester clubs.
And West Ham United’s season has taken a great turn for the better with a Europa Conference League semi-final on the horizon and safety in the Premier League looking all the more certain.
Meanwhile, down under Scott Jamieson is the captain of Melbourne City FC who continue to lead the way in the A-League.

Tom Ticks off London Marathon for DT38
We’re hugely proud of Tom Smalley who ran the London Marathon for DT38 this month.
Hammers fan Tom admitted that taking on the 26.2 mile course across the English capital was on his bucket list and crossing the line was a dream come true.
We’re so very grateful to Tom for his fundraising effort.
He has, so far, raised more than £2,400 for DT38.

Enter the Boxing Ring for DT38 in November
The search is on for people to take part in Awareness Below The Belt 5, our White Collar Boxing event in November.
This spectacular occasion is a fixture in the DT38 calendar and has been a tremendous success in previous years.
We’re looking for people of any gender over the age of 18 who have no boxing experience to take part in a supervised boxing match at London’s prestigious York Hall on November 12th.
Invite friends and family and make a day of it, as you take on the challenge of a lifetime.

Terry Hayes Makes Appeal for Males to Check Themselves Once a Month
We were so pleased that new DT38 Ambassador Terry Hayes took part in our campaign to raise awareness about the importance of self checking once a month.
“Haysey” – who is the Kit Manager at Billericay Town FC – made a short film in April to encourage men and boys to check their testicles on the first day of every month.
The video was the latest installment of DT38’s Check 1-Two Campaign, which launched in 2020.
Self checking is so important because early detection of any symptoms of testicular cancer can dramatically increase your chances of surviving the disease.
Did you know? Self-checking is simple, you can do it in bed, in the shower, on the couch or anywhere private, and it could save your life!
Terry is the latest in a very large group of folks – including many famous faces – who have chosen to back our campaign.
Keep an eye out for who’s going to make an appearance on May 1st.

Recycle Your Empty Cartons in WA and Help DT38 (and the Planet)
It is now SO EASY to support DT38 when you recycle your food and household cartons in Western Australia.
We are a nominated charity to benefit from Containers For Change and with the launch of the new “mobile pass” it is easier than ever to help us and the planet at the same time!
There are three simple steps to help the environment and our charity through this initiative.
1. Collect eligible containers
Most aluminium, glass, plastic, steel and liquid paperboard drink containers between 150ml and 3L are eligible.
2.Take them to a refund point
There are different types of refund points across Western Australia, so find the right one for you.
3. Earn a refund or donate
You’ll receive 10 cents for every eligible container you return which you can keep or DONATE.
We benefit from cartons you deposit at Containers For Change drop off points in WA and with the new mobile pass you can register your deposits to DT38 and download our scheme ID to your mobile wallet so it’s there every time you need it.

Many Happy Returns
A smashing seven birthdays were celebrated in April across our amazing DT38 team.
Leading the way on April 1st was DT38 Australia Director and auntie of Dylan, Karen Bondi, who celebrated her big day.
On April 7th DT38 Ambassador and Burnley FC midfielder Josh Cullen turned 27 and four days later Avondale FC forward Liam Boland – also an Ambassador – was 31 years old.
The next day (April 12th) saw a double celebration as DT38 Ambassadors Brandon O’Neill (29) and Rhys Ryan (24) both celebrated their big days.
April 13th was the birthday of Luton Town FC full back Dan Potts, who was 29, while former Socceroo Jacob Burns was 45 on April 21st. Both are DT38 Ambassadors.

And so every month we have the really tough task of choosing our “Picture of the Month”, just for the fun of it!
Earlier this year we were so pleased to welcome new DT38 Ambassador Paul Bridger into our team and he’s been so helpful since.
Recently our inbox buzzed after the playwright sent us a picture of his son Jesus Kalu who’s working in Australia at the moment.
Jesus spent some time in Perth and we’re so pleased that he decided to make a very important visit to Dylan’s memorial statue outside HBF Park.
Way to go Jesus!
