Welcome to the DT38 Foundation December newsletter, Channel38.

This is where we bring together all the very latest developments, events, support stories at DT38.
It’s also a chance for us to share important information about the work we do to raise awareness of testicular cancer around schools and in communities as well as publicly offering our thanks to the many people who support us in our endeavours.

Review of 2018 with DT38 Founder, Tracy Tombides

So, 2018 is almost over and it’s been another remarkable year for DT38 and our ongoing campaign to raise awareness of testicular cancer.

A large aspect of our awareness campaign is to work harder and smarter to reach as many people as possible on social media with information about DT38, the risks of testicular cancer and how to check for signs of the disease.

We are delighted to announce that for the first time in 2018, we reached close to 5 million users across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

This is in no small part because of the commitment from our loyal group of supporters who regularly Like, Share and comment on our posts as a way of getting behind our work.

A huge thank you to each and every one of you, we really couldn’t make such a difference without you.

We have also very successfully continued our work at schools across east London in partnership with the West Ham United Foundation.

This section of our work is vital.

Not only do we want to help men recognise what testicular cancer is and what to do if you find signs of it, but we also want to educate children about the importance of health, wellbeing and resilience despite adversity.

We are continuing to reach more and more young people and would like to offer our thanks to the West Ham United Foundation for their unwavering commitment to the project.

The last 12 months have seen an unprecedented number of major events for us in the UK, all of which we need to fund our awareness programmes.

March 8th would have been Dylan’s 24th birthday and April 18th commemorated the fourth year since his passing.

On April 29th the fourth DT38 Awareness Day took place in partnership with West Ham United.

The action centred around the Hammers match with the Premier League champions Manchester City and was an incredible opportunity for us to raise awareness, despite the result of the game.

A number of DT38 Ambassadors represented Australia at Russia 2018 in the summer and we unveiled an exclusive interview with Socceroo’s skipper Mile Jedinak the day before the tournament kicked off.

And a hat trick of amazing events in November capped off a fantastic year for our charity.

The DT38 Football Legends Q & A Dinner took place at The Cow, Stratford, on November 7 with Mile Jedinak, Steve Lomas, Carlton Cole, Tony Carr and Ian “Moose” Abrahams as our special guests.

On Remembrance Day we were involved in the first ever DT38 White Collar Boxing Day with the amazing Peacock Gym and it was an outstanding success inside and outside the ring.

And just ten days later we held the third annual DT38 Poker Tournament at Crown London Aspinalls with the likes of Stephen Hendry, Martin Jacobson, Jack Collison and Matthew Selt competing for the title.

Proceeds from all of these events in November were donated to DT38 Foundation and we would like to offer a huge thank you, once again, to everyone who supported them or helped make them happen.

The list of amazing people who have helped us in the UK, Australia and elsewhere is extremely long and we have been overwhelmed by all of this wonderful support over the past 12 months.

I would like to take this opportunity, once again, to offer a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has used their time, energy, imagination and money to support our charity.

It really means the world to us.

Many Happy Returns

There are no less than four birthdays in this fantastic festive month for our amazing DT38 Ambassadors.

On December 1st former West Ham United scout Mike Leigh celebrated his big day, while on December 5th sports TV presenter Adrian Barich turned a year older as did Ian Hendon.

On December 12th retired Socceroo Craig Moore was 43 and on December 16th Dylan’s great pal Elliot Lee, now a prolific striker at Luton Town FC, became 24-years-old.

We would like to wish Many happy returns to all of you!

Picture of the Month

And so we turn to our final Picture of the Month for 2018 and it’s been a very difficult decision once again.

We receive so many amazing images from DT38 supporters across the world and we love to share them.

This month we’re proud to share this great picture from Josh Parish who’s supporting us down under.

Josh grew a tashe and a fundraising pot in support of DT38 for Movember.
