We recently marked the eleventh anniversary of the passing of Dylan Tombides.
Since the end of his brave battle with testicular cancer, the Tombides family, friends, organisations and supporters have worked tirelessly to share Dylan’s inspiring story to help other men and boys.
It was because of DT38’s work raising awareness of testicular cancer and the importance of self-checking regularly that Bradley Clarke was aware of the risks of the disease and what symptoms to look out for.
Brad has now finished his treatment and, thankfully is doing really well.
We are so happy to have had contact with him and to share his story, with his permission.
“I found out about the DT38 Foundation through being a Perth Glory fan. From the DT38 match day to the statue of Dylan outside of HBF Park I was quite aware of what testicular cancer was, but never thinking it could happen to me.
“Late October of 2022 I found a lump on my testicle after a afternoon shower. Knowing that early diagnosis is important i went to the doctors the following morning. That was then followed up by an ultra sound scan. A few days had past and I then received a call from the doctor to see him. The results lead them to believe it was cancerous.
“It was scary, but I am fortunate enough to have loving family and friends to help me through this. On November 24th, 2022, I had the testicle and cancer removed, which after the biopsy, they found the tumor was indeed cancerous.
“But the worst of it wasn’t done. It had a cycle of chemotherapy during February as a final measure to make sure it hadn’t spread. Having lost my hair and feeling so lethargic during my chemo, I was still happy knowing I had friends and family by my side. Even as much as my lovely partner’s sister Jorja shaving her head for donations to cancer research.
“As of March 2023 I began having blood tests and CT scans to track if anything was in my system. I’m now living my best life knowing that my life was saved by the early diagnosis of testicular cancer. All my tests have come back negative and I’m so happy.
“The biggest thing I learnt about my experience was that all I want to do is share the importance of checking your testicles regularly. Early diagnosis saved me and I hope it saves many more.
“Sharing information posted by DT38 on its socials is something I do as often as possible. Having heard Dylan’s story was really eye opening. I love being a fan of Perth Glory and seeing his statue every home game.
“I will be at the Perth Glory game tonight in my DT38 shirt applauding at the 38 minute mark as it does feel close to home for me. To me it’s my favourite game of the year.
“I know this probably a lot to read but awareness and early diagnosis is the most important thing to me.
Thank you for reading,
Brad“
Rest in peace Dylan Tombides
