Welcome to the DT38 January 2023 newsletter, Channel38.
It’s been another busy month for DT38 and we’re here to share some of the very latest news, events and stories involving our charity.
It’s also an opportunity for us to pass on vital information about the work we do raising awareness of testicular cancer across the world, around schools and in communities as well as publicly showing gratitude for the many people who support us in our work.
Men and boys: Remember to check yourselves on the first of every month, it could save your life!
David Gold – A Tribute
We were deeply saddened to hear about the passing of West Ham United FC joint Chairman David Gold this month.
Mr Gold passed away on January 4th following a short illness at the age of 86.
He was especially supportive to the Tombides family after the loss of Dylan Tombides in April 2014.
Paying tribute, Tracy Tombides said: “I was saddened to hear of the Passing of David Gold and my thoughts turned to the unwavering support that the family received from him, David Sullivan and Karren Brady when Dylan was first diagnosed with testicular cancer.
“I’ll never forget that arm around me as I watched Dylan’s shirt being retired at Upton Park on 19 April 2014.
“He had no idea of his strength and how he held me together that day. Always in my heart.”
Mr Gold was a lifelong Hammers fan and will be sorely missed.
Tracy and Taylor Tombides are honoured to be attending Mr Gold’s funeral which will take place shortly.

Seb Plays Again after Testicular Cancer Battle
We are delighted to see striker Sebastian Haller back on the pitch after a battle with testicular cancer last year.
The former West Ham United forward returned to play for his new club Borussia Dortmund this month.
The 28 year-old underwent chemotherapy after being diagnosed with testicular cancer in July, shortly after he left the Hammers.
Seb is one of four known players in the Bundesliga to have battled testicular cancer last year, all within a six-month period.
We wish Seb and all others well in their recovery and to a brighter year ahead.

Tracy Tombides Encourages Lads to Check Themselves Once a Month
Our fabulous Co-founder Tracy Tombides is one of the most qualified people in the world to speak about the importance of men and boys checking their testicles once a month.
In 2014, Tracy lost her eldest son Dylan Tombides at the age of just 20 to testicular cancer after he was denied an early ultrasound scan.
Tracy and everyone at DT38 know the importance of recognising the signs and symptoms of the disease early because it makes a big difference to your chances of survival.
That is why DT38 launched our Check 1-Two campaign, to encourage men and boys to check their testicles on the first day of every month.
To kick off 2023 we shared a video of Tracy on New Year’s Day to spread the word in the latest installment of our campaign.
Every month on the first day we send out a film from a supporter or famous face to help spread this vital information.
Did you know? Self-checking is simple, you can do it in bed, in the shower, on the couch or anywhere private, and it could save your life!
Early detection is so important when it comes to health issues such as testicular cancer and that’s why we’ll keep reminding you to get checking!
Keep an eye out for who’s going to make an appearance on Febuary 1st.

Marvellous George!
