DT38 Newsletter – “Channel38” – October 2023

Welcome to the DT38 October 2023 newsletter, Channel38.

It’s been a very lively month for us at DT38 and we’re delighted to share some of the very latest developments, events and stories involving our charity.

It’s also a chance for us to pass on vital information about the work we do to raise awareness of testicular cancer around schools and in communities as well as publicly showing gratitude for the many people who support us in our work.

Men and boys: Remember to check yourselves on the first of every month, it could save your life!

Tickets On Sale Now for DT38 White Collar Boxing Event

Tickets are on sale now for Awareness Below The Belt 5, the hugely popular DT38 White Collar Boxing event on November 12th.

This exciting event is a spectacular staple in the DT38 calendar and has been a wonderful success over the past four years.

It’s a real favourite amongst Hammers and boxing fans and has been graced by many famous faces including Anthony Yarde, Declan Rice, Carlton Cole, Jermain Defoe, Bianca Westwood and Daniella Westbrook.

The awesome action will include a card of pre-arranged boxing matches involving folks with limited experience in the ring under the supervision of Peacock White Collar Boxing who are organising the event in collaboration with DT38.

It’s all happening at one of the planet’s most prestigious boxing venues, York Hall in Bethnal Green, London on Remembrance Sunday.

Respects will be paid to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice before the action in the ring kicks off.

Each of the gutsy competitors has put themselves forward to raise funds for DT38 and help our work raising awareness of testicular cancer to help save men and boy’s lives through education.

There is also a fundraising auction with some very special lots up for grabs including signed Nigel Benn shorts and tickets to Britain’s Got Talent. See below.

Doors are at 2.30pm and the first bell is at 4pm.

It promises, once again, to be one amazing day!

It gave us the greatest pleasure to present the Dylan Tombides Young Player of the Year Award to Jayden Gorman at the NPLWA Awards 2023.

DT38 Australia Director John Bondi and our Head of Media & Operations Donna Giuffre were honoured to attend the star-studded event at The Westin, Perth on October 18th.

Donna made an address and was joined by John on stage to present the award to Perth Glory FC forward Jayden.

DT38 enjoys a long-standing relationship with Football West, which is committed to helping us raise awareness of the risks of testicular cancer via their football platform.

NEW: DT38 Launches E-Calendar – Sign Ups Continue to Grow

We’re very excited to see the number of people who have now subscribed to our new DT38 e-calendar.

This initiative is a first for DT38 which uses technology to remind people to check themselves down under on the first of every month.

By signing up you are just a few clicks away from getting all the important DT38 dates you need automatically updated onto the calendar of your mobile phone, tablet or PC.

Tracy Tombides, Co-Founder of DT38, said: “We are very encouraged to see so many people signing up to our new scheme but I want to see more get involved.

“Our all new e-calendar is a great aid to remind people to check their testicles on the first of every month and it’s so easy to access, it could make all the difference.

“We also make sure that all key dates are in there for DT38, so subscribers have everything automatically updates on their phones and tablets and it’s completely free.

“There are only up-sides to our new e-calendar, so if you have’nt yet, I urge you to get involved.”

The innovation has primarily been introduced to enable more men and boys to check their testicles once a month, to pick up signs of anything unusual early on.

Here’s a reminder of the top benefits!

  • Automatically adds DT38 events to your mobile device calendar

Jonathan’s Plea to Men & Boys to Check Themselves Once a Month!

New DT38 Ambassador Jonathan Harman shared a very important message in October to encourage males to get checking!

Jonathan signed up to become a DT38 Ambassador in August and wasted no time in making a difference.

He sent us a video to share, and it was an important one.

This brilliant film is the latest episode of our Check 1-Two campaign, which urges males to check their testicles on the first of every month.

The clip was shared on October 1st and every month on the first day we send out a message from a supporter or celebrity to help spread this vital information.

Did you know? Self-checking is simple, you can do it in bed, in the shower, on the couch or anywhere private, and it could save your life!

Early detection is so important when it comes to health issues such as testicular cancer and that’s why we’ll keep reminding you to get checking!

Huge thanks to Jonathan and to all the great folks, including many famous faces, who’ve joined in our Check 1-Two campaign so far. Keep an eye out for who’s going to make an appearance on November 1st.

Many Happy Returns

A top twelve birthdays were celebrated this October in DT38, enough for an entire footie line-up plus a sub!

On October 2nd former Hammers midfielder Jack Collison was 35 and Chennaiyin (Indian Super League) defender and testicular cancer survivor Ryan Edwards was 30 on October 7th. Both are DT38 Ambassadors.

Mark Ward – a Boy of ’86 – turned 61 on October 10th, while fellow DT38 Ambassador Carlton Cole was 40 two days later. DT38 Australia Director John Bondi also celebrated his birthday on October 12th, as did his son and DT38 Youth Ambassador Lee Bondi.

One day later (13th) former Melbourne City FC skipper Scott Jamieson was 35 and the 19th was the birthday of “Big Sam” Allardyce with Rob Hall of Hampton & Richmond Borough FC turning 30 on the 20th. All three of these great chaps are DT38 Ambassadors.

Former Socceroo Archie Thompson celebrated his 45th birthday on October 23rd, on the 26th ex-Hammers Academy keeper Sam Cowler was 31 and Bengaluru FC (Indian Premier League) midfielder Ryan Williams was 30 on October 28th. Again, all three are lovely Ambassadors of DT38.
