DT38 NEWSLETTER “CHANNEL38” – EPISODE 54
Welcome to the DT38 June 2022 newsletter, Channel38.
It’s been another busy month for us at DT38 and we’re delighted to share some of the very latest developments, events and stories involving our charity.
It’s also a chance for us to pass on vital information about the work we do to raise awareness of testicular cancer around schools and in communities as well as publicly showing gratitude for the many people who support us in our work.
Men and boys: Remember to check yourselves on the first of every month, it could save your life!
Going the Extra Mile – Jedinak to Run London 10k with DT38 Team
A brilliant team of people including DT38 Patron and former Socceroos Captain Mile Jedinak is to run the Asics London 10k in July to raise funds for our work against testicular cancer.
Mile has supported DT38 since it’s inception in 2015 and will pound the streets for us in July to raise funds.
He will be joined by Dylan’s former teammate Tom King – who played for Australia with Dylan in the U-17 World Cup in 2011 –and by West Ham United FC coaching staff Luke Smith, Sam Lyall and Stuart Fergus.
Tom is an Ambassador of DT38.
Also joining the team is Briony King, Charlotte Stock, Alexandra Varsaks, Gareth Vidler and Hayden Quigg to make up a stunning line-up.
Dylan’s brother Taylor Tombides was also training for the event and looking forward to it, but sadly had to withdraw because he had to travel to Australia to fulfill work commitments.
Speaking about the event, Taylor said: “I’m really sad that I can no longer run the event because of work opportunities down under, but I’m thrilled that Mile, Tom and the team are taking it on for DT38 and Dylan.
“Having ran the Asics London 10k last year I can tell you it’s an amazing day and 10,000m should not be underestimated, it’s quite a challenge to get through.
“I am two hundred per cent behind the guys and really hope people will get behind Tom and the team by sponsoring them and helping DT38 continue to help save men and boy’s lives by raising awareness of testicular cancer.”

Zac Williams Tackles Testicular Cancer as First AFL DT38 Ambassador
We were so excited to announce earlier this month that AFL star Zac Williams has now joined the DT38 team as an Ambassador.
Zac, who plays for Carlton FC, is the first Aussie Rules player to represent our charity to help us raise awareness of testicular cancer.
To mark the moment Zac grabbed some selfies with our co-founder Tracy Tombides.
He then took to Instagram and said: “Very excited to announce I’m teaming up with DT38 to help raise awareness and education around testicular cancer.
“It was an honour to meet co-founder Tracy on her recent trip to Melbourne, to hear Dylan’s story. My partner Rachel grew up with the Tombides family and after hearing about the tireless work they do it has inspired me to use my platform to spread awareness.
“Testicular cancer has personally affected two of my close friends and fellow teammates. Sam Docherty and recently Bobby Hill and it is more important than ever to raise awareness about the need for early detection of testicular cancer so lives can be saved.”
Thank you for your support Zac, we’re so proud to have you on board.
Dylan Tombides Trophy – 18.06.2022 – What a Day!
Dylan’s Dad, Jim Tombides and DT38 Director Chris de Lima were delighted to attend the 2022 Dylan Tombides Trophy match at Dorrien Gardens earlier this month.
The NPL Western Australia fixture between two of Dylan Tombides’ former teams Perth Soccer Club and Stirling Macedonia was dedicated to raising awareness of DT38.
Banners were flown and t-shirts worn as the name of DT38 swept through the stadium around the match to promote our work raising awareness of testicular cancer.
Perth SC won the match 3-0.
We’re extremely grateful for the support we have received for a number of years from both clubs and from Football West.
It was, once again, a fantastic night and we’re extremely to everyone involved.
Thank you.
New DT38 & West Ham United FC Film Aims to “Get Men Talking”
Two testicular cancer survivors headed to the Hammers training ground to team up with West Ham United players to get men talking about testicular health.
Trash the taboo! That was the heart of the message in a brand new film which featured DT38 Ambassador Rhys Ryan and Callum Doyle, both of whom have battled the disease along with Dylan’s brother Taylor Tombides.
The lads – both in their twenties – were joined by Aaron Cresswell, Darren Randolph and David Martin to have an open chat about their own experiences of testicular cancer.
The concensus from the group was that we all need to continue to work hard to smash the stigma around men’s health issues.
To be open, to talk candidly and to share how we’re feeling with our mates.
Ignorance and embarrassment cannot and must not threaten health and take lives!
The video was supported by Manscaped UK and the Testicular Cancer Society.
Thank you to the team at West Ham United FC for making this happen.

Danny & Lee Say Get Checking Chaps!
We shared two fantastic new videos this month as part of our hugely successful Check 1-Two campaign.
Danny Dixon – who is now playing football again for Hume City FC after a battle with testicular cancer – made a film clip to encourage males to check down under once a month.
And then DT38 Youth Ambassador, Lee Bondi, cousin of Dylan Tombides, shot a video with a clear message that men and boys need to take control by self checking.
Both films were shared on June 1st because we remind people to get into the routine of checking on the 1st of every month.
Self-checking is simple, you can do it in bed, in the shower or anywhere private, and it could save your life!
Early detection is so important when it comes to health issues such as testicular cancer and that’s why we’ll keep reminding you to get checking!
Massive thanks to Danny and Lee and to all of the many good people who’ve joined in our Check 1-Two campaign so far.
It powers on!
