Welcome to the DT38 February 2022 newsletter, Channel38.
It’s been another busy month for us at DT38 and we’re delighted to share some of the very latest developments, events and stories involving our charity.
It’s also a chance for us to pass on vital information about the work we do to raise awareness of testicular cancer around schools and in communities as well as publicly showing gratitude for the many people who support us in our work.
Men and boys: Remember to check yourselves on the first of every month, it could save your life!
Seven Fantastic Years of DT38
February 28th marked the seventh anniversary of the launch of DT38 Foundation.
DT38 was founded 2nd February 2015 to raise awareness of testicular cancer in memory of talented footballer Dylan Tombides, the year after he passed away following an incredible battle with the disease.
We are very proud to have honoured Dylan’s legacy by making a significant impact during that time.
DT38 has reached hundreds of thousands of men and boys across the UK, Australia and further afield to share messages about the importance of testicular health, self checking and the risks posed by testicular cancer.
It is the most common form of cancer among males aged 15-35.
Nearly every day we have reached out to people across the globe to share vital information, we have visited schools and given presentations at work places.
On many occasions we have arranged free testicular cancer screening sessions in both the UK and down under, offering men and boys important health updates and/or piece of mind.
We are very pleased to have entered collaborations with like-minded organisations to pool resources and reach out to even more people than we would have done alone.
In 2020 we launched Check 1-Two and fresh campaign to encourage people to get to know their testicles and check for any changes on the first day of every month.
This campaign has been supported by many high profile people from the world of football who have made video clips to promote the initiative.
Owing to the fantastically positive impact Dylan had in his life – which was cut tragically short with passing at the age of 20 – both on and off the soccer pitch, we have benefitted from a huge amount of support across the world of football.
From day one we have enjoyed the support of West Ham United and are a Principal Charity Partner of the Club.
We’re also very proud of the support we receive as a partner of Perth Glory FC and our collaborations with Football West, The Socceroos and Professional Footballers Australia.
We are extremely grateful for the support we receive from each of these organisations and from the many others with which we work.
We cannot name each and everyone here, but please know that we’re extremely grateful for everything that you do.
In addition to providing free ultrasound scans for testicular cancer to so many people over the past seven years, we have also been in direct contact with many men who have wanted to share their own testicular cancer stories with us.
Some of these men wanted to show their gratitude to DT38 because our awareness work through Dylan’s inspiring story meant they caught the disease early and were afforded effective treatment.
Others got in touch to thank us for shining a light on the risks of testicular cancer, having themselves fought the disease. They pledged to support DT38 going forward to generously play their part in helping others.
Of course there are many people who freely give their time and determination to support DT38, it is these people who have made our charity such a success.
Many of these are involved with our charity in an official capacity, as officers, committee members, trustees, patrons and ambassadors, others help us informally, on specific events or initiatives.
To everyone who has given such generous support to us, with their time, determination, contacts and resources, we want to say a huge thank you!
As we power into our 8th year everyone at DT38 is more committed than ever to raising awareness of testicular cancer by educating men, women and boys about the risks of the disease, how to catch it and what to do about it it.
Simply put, check yourselves once a month, know the symptoms you’re looking for and make sure you contact your GP and insist on an ultrasound scan if you notice anything down under which matches the recognised symptoms.
Of course, for us to reach out almost daily to share these important messages does need to be funded and that’s where our events come in.
We have an exciting programme of fundraising events lined up for 2022, please get in touch if you would like to support them in some way, by attending or sponsorship.

DT38 Australia Golf Day Tickets – FINAL CALL
The first DT38 Australia Golf Day will take place on March 11th.
At this fundraising event all players on the day will be in with a chance of winning an amazing Izuzu vehicle worth up to $60,000 at the event.
This fantastic prize comes courtesy of our event partner Major Motors.
The special day will take place at Wembley Golf Course and includes a post-round barbecue dinner, presentation and a Q & A with special guest stars.
Events such as this are vital to our charity’s success. Our mission is to raise awareness and change the stigma associated with men’s health issues with a particular focus on testicular cancer.
We do this through providing educational programmes and opportunities for the youth of our community, to help shape a generation of children who are self- aware about their health and wellbeing. In order to do this we need your support.
Donna Giuffre, Head of Media & Operations at DT38 Australia, said: “We’re so excited to now be in a position to host our DT38 Australia Golf Day, it’s going to be epic!
“A huge thanks to all of our partners who’ve been so amazing in supporting this important occasion.
“We guarantee it is going to be great fun, but it’s also a vital day in DT38 Australia’s fundraising calendar in support of our ongoing mission to raise awareness of testicular cancer and help save men and boy’s lives.”
DT38 Pays Tribute to Isla Caton in New Article
We were so moved in paying tribute to seven-year-old Isla Caton who passed away last month following a long battle with neuroblastoma.
Isla was a big fan of West Ham United – our UK partner club – and the Hammers gave us the opportunity to express our thoughts for and condolences to her family and friends on World Cancer Day, February 4th, 2022.
The piece featured in a matchday programme and on the Club’s website.
