DT38 ‘CHANNEL38’ NEWSLETTER – JUNE 2021 EDITION

Welcome to the DT38 Foundation June 2021 newsletter, Channel38.

This is where we bring together all the very latest developments, events and support stories at DT38.

It’s also a chance for us to share important information about the work we do to raise awareness of testicular cancer around schools and in communities as well as publicly offering our thanks to the many people who support us in our endeavours.

Melbourne City FC Champions

We would like to send huge congratulations to everyone at Melbourne City FC who were crowned champions of the Hyundai A-League after winning the Grand Final this month including to DT38 Ambassadors Scott Jamieson and Rostyn Griffths who both play for the club.

City’s skipper Scott Jamieson scored a penalty in the 3-1 victory over Sydney FC to claim their first A-League title.

Scott and Rostyn are wonderful supporters of DT38 and continue to help us spread the word about the risks of testicular cancer.

DT38 Ambassadors Update

We’re so proud to have so many wonderful DT38 Ambassadors, many of whom are from the world of football, Dylan Tombides’ great passion.

We would like to send our very best wishes to former West Ham United and Wolves winger Matt Jarvis who retired from the game this month at the age of 35.

As an Ambassador of DT38 Matt is helping us reach as many people as possible about the risks of testicular cancer.

We would also like to pass on our best wishes to fellow Ambassador Freddie Sears who has sealed a move from Ipswich Town FC to Colchester United FC and to DT38 Ambassador Ryan Williams who has moved from Portsmouth FC  to Oxford United FC.

Perth Glory MGP Awards

We were thrilled to be invited to the Perth Glory MGP Awards 2021 on June 18th at Crown Perth.

On a star studded night which saw Bruno Fornaroli collect a hat-trick of awards, our amazing DT38 Australia Media & Communications Manager Donna Giuffre presented the DT38 U-23 Best Player of the Year to Luke Bodnar in the week the youngster signed a two-year deal with the Club.

Glory CEO Tony Pignata was quick to congratulate all the winners and also acknowledge those who had helped the club to meet the challenges thrown up by what was a hugely-demanding season.

“It’s been fantastic to see the Glory family back together for this traditional and much-loved event,” he said, “and on behalf of everyone associated with the club, I’d like to salute all those who have taken out awards tonight.

“I’d also like to sincerely thank our Members and fans, sponsors and corporates and our players, coaches, support and office staff and volunteers for their fantastic support and hard work this year.

“Next season marks the 25th anniversary of this wonderful and unique football club and we are all now looking forward to marking that milestone in style on and off the field.”

Christopher Chandler – We Miss You Dearly

June 5th marked the fourth anniversary of the passing of Christopher Chandler, a wonderful boy who was heartbreakingly taken from us way too early.

Christopher was a delightful lad and a DT38 Youth Ambassador who was keen to support our charity whenever he could.

Rest in peace little legend, you will live in our memories always.

Boleyn United Charity Football Match for DT38

Huge thanks to everyone at Boleyn United FC who held a charity match vs Mates FC on June 5th at Moulsham High School in Chelmsford, Essex and raised £400 for DT38.

We’re sorry the result didn’t go your way, but you smashed it in your fundraising effort!

If you would like to support the lads (& DT38) by making a donation, you can still do so here https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/bufcxdt38

Donovan Jones – What a Hero!

We’re in awe of Donovan Jones, talk about Superman!

Donovan took part in the gruelling London to Brighton 100km Challenge and finished in 8th position out of 1,135 participants, wow!

A fantastic personal achievement, but Donovan also raised an amazing £735 for DT38 to help us continue to raise awareness of testicular cancer.

Thank you Donovan!

Joe, Taylor & Tom 10k

After what has been such a difficult 18 months for DT38 we’re so pleased to say the vital fundraising has begun again and now a battle has begun between three amazing men who are supporting DT38 (and competing like crazy) in the Asics London 10k on 25th July, 2021.

DT38 co-founder Taylor Tombides, Trustee and Dylan Tombides’ agent Joe Sealey and Dylan’s former Australian teammate Tom King are all frantically raising funds while training for the big run this summer.

Not only does each of the terrific trio want to cross the line first, they also want the bragging rights of claiming the top fundraiser title!

At the moment Joe is in the lead but there’s still plenty of time for Taylor and Tom to catch up!

Who will you support?

Sponsor Taylor https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/taylor-tombides

Sponsor Joe https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/joe-sealey

Sponsor Tom https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/tom-king-dt38 -king-dt38

Support these men as they take on a memorable run around the capital and fundraise in support of our mission to raise awareness of testicular cancer, the most common type of cancer among young men in the world.

Future DT38 Fundraising Events in the UK – 2021

Following the UK Government’s announcement of a ‘roadmap’ out of Lockdown we are delighted to say we’re now planning for three important fundraising events this year.

Obviously each of these events are subject to Government policy allowing them at the time but we are expecting to run the following this year:-

August – DT38 Charity Golf Day at Langdon Hills Golf Club

October – DT38 Charity Poker Tournament at Crown London, Mayfair.

November – White Collar Boxing with Peacock Gym at York Hall aka. ‘Awareness Below the Belt 3.0’.

Watch this space for more details!

If you’re interested in getting involved with or supporting these events please contact tracylee@dt38.org

Many Happy Returns

A hat trick of birthdays were celebrated around the DT38 gang across June.

On June 15th we said a very Happy Birthday to DT38 Australia’s Media & Communications Manager Donna Giuffre and four days later our Co-Founder – and the mother of Dylan Tombides – Tracy celebrated her big day!

And we said Many Happy Returns to brilliant DT38 Patron Daniel Garb on June 24th.

Many Happy Returns one and all!

Picture of the Month

We are sent so many fabulous pictures every month and with Euro 2020 in full swing we invited you to celebrate the tournament by sending in pictures of you in your DT38 gear.

So, in that spirit, we chosen our “Picture of the Month” and it goes to Andy Cork who sent us this super cool selfie in the sunshine.

Containers For Change Down Under

We are thrilled to be a nominated charity to benefit from the Containers For Change recycling initiative in Western Australia.

There are three simple steps to help the environment and our charity through this initiative.

1. Collect eligible containers

Most aluminium, glass, plastic, steel and liquid paperboard drink containers between 150ml and 3L are eligible.

2.Take them to a refund point

There are different types of refund points across Western Australia, so find the right one for you.

3. Earn a refund or donate

You’ll receive 10 cents for every eligible container you return which you can keep or DONATE.

It really is that simple to build up your recycling and help DT38 and the planet at the same time!

For more information pay them a virtual visit https://www.containersforchange.com.au/wa/

Support DT38 at our Online Shop

Of course the Coronavirus has had a significant impact upon everyone.

A large part of DT38’s fundraising comes from events we run throughout the year, as well as from individuals, companies and organisations who undertake fundraising initiatives to support our campaign to raise awareness of testicular cancer.

But we, like many others, have sadly been affected by the postponement of cancellation of many events and fundraising opportunities across 2020 and until at least Summer 2021.

The funds we receive are vital to support our ongoing work to help save the lives of men and boys through education and self-checking campaigns.

If you would like to continue supporting DT38 we do still accept direct donations via our website, you can donate towards our 3.80 Funding Appeal or you could make a purchase through our online store here: https://dt38foundation.myshopify.com

Thank you so much for any support you can give.

Sharing the Love

We are so grateful to more than 35,000 people who follow and support us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

Every month we receive so many shares, Retweets, likes and tags and we’re so grateful for each and every one of them, thank you.

And that brings to end this edition but we’ll be back with the next edition of Channel38 in July.

If you have helped DT38 in some way in recent times, please be sure to let us know so we can include it in one of our future newsletters. Contact tracylee@dt38.org or connect with us on Twitter Facebook or Instagram
