DT38 CHANNEL 38 – November Edition

Welcome to the DT38 Foundation November newsletter, Channel38.

This is where we bring together all the very latest developments, events and support stories at DT38.

It’s also a chance for us to share important information about the work we do to raise awareness of testicular cancer around schools and in communities as well as publicly offering our thanks to the many people who support us in our endeavours.

Free Testicular Cancer Scans Event Down Under Hailed a Huge Success

We would like to offer huge thanks to the team at Ultrasound Services, Applecross, for their support in helping us put on another free testicular cancer scan day on November 10.

We were delighted to see so many men arrive to have themselves checked and secure peace of mind in the process.

It is only through events like this and by continuing to raise awareness of the importance of self-checking that men will become more comfortable with talking about and acting upon their health and wellbeing.

DT38 Scores a Hat Trick of Successful Events in the UK in November

The busiest single month in our charity’s history in the UK is almost over and what an amazingly successful November we had, thanks to lots of hard work and the dedication of our volunteers and supporters.

To every single person who contributed in some way to our Football Q & A Dinner at The Cow, Stratford, the DT38 White Collar Boxing Event at York Hall and the Annual Poker Tournament at Crown Aspinalls London we say a massive THANK YOU.

A Special Evening at the Football Legends Q & A Dinner

Carlton Cole singing the R Kelly classic “I Believe I Can Fly” certainly wasn’t on the cards when this hilarious, yet moving, event kicked off on November 7.

Our amazing panel of DT38 Patron Mile Jedinak, Steve Lomas, Tony Carr and Carlton were in outstanding form at this fundraiser, each sharing unique insight on and off the pitch from their lives in The Beautiful Game.

Chairing the panel discussion was Talksport’s Ian “Moose” Abrahams, in front of a busy audience at The Cow, Westfield Shopping Centre, Stratford, who applauded and laughed in equal measure throughout the night.

There were also many moving tributes to Dylan, as the quartet recalled their experiences of getting to know such a talented, kind, funny and bright young man.

We would like to offer huge thanks to our panel who generously gave their time to support DT38, to The Cow for their wonderful hospitality and to the many people who bought tickets to support this event.

Full House at the DT38 Charity Poker Night

Snooker legend Stephen Hendry was among the familiar faces to take a seat at the poker tables of Crown London Aspinalls on November 21 for the DT38 Annual Charity Poker Tournament (ACPT).

Former World Series of Poker champion Martin Jacobson, DT38 Ambassador Jack Collison and snooker pro Matthew Selt also challenged for the title at the third ACPT.

But the trophy was claimed by Ejaaz Dean, congratulations sir!

Mr Dean kindly donated his prize to DT38 Foundation.

DT38 White Collar Boxing Day

In all 22 stars shone bright at the first DT38 White Collar Boxing Day, named “Awareness Below The Belt”.

Hundreds of people packed the prestigious York Hall on November 11 to watch 11 three-round boxing bouts featuring novice fighters who had been shown the ropes by instructors at Peacock Gym for the big day.

Many Happy Returns

We’d a hat-trick of Happy Birthdays amongst our DT83 Ambassadors this month.

Former tennis pro Paul McNamee turned 64 on November 12 and St Mirren midfielder Ryan Edwards was 25 on the 17th.

Meanwhile Ipswich Town striker Freddie Sears celebrated his 29thbirthday on, November 27.

Picture of the Month

We receive so many amazing images from DT38 supporters across the world and we love to share them.

With hundreds being shared from our events, it was always a very difficult choice, but must choose our ‘Picture of the Month’.

This month we’re proud to share this great picture from our DT38 White Collar Boxing Day “Awareness Below The Belt”.

Lining up here is the amazing Tony Liston of Peacock Gym who worked so hard to help us organise the event, fellow contestant Baz Cox, who raised £5,753.38 through the day to be split between DT38 and Isla’s Fight and former Light Heavyweight world champion John Conteh.

Sharing the Love

We are so grateful to more than 30,000 people who follow and support us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

Every month we receive so many shares, Retweets, likes and tags and we’re so grateful for each and every one of them.

Here are just three of the many wonderful messages received this month

And that brings to end of this November 2018 edition of Channel38, but we’ll be back with an update in December.
